This program focuses on proper techniques for blocking, punching, kicking, and throwing while having fun. Our different age groupings allows us to teach age-appropriate material. Safety is always the most important aspect. Instruction focuses on the self-defense aspects of the martial arts in general. Our instruction teaches restraint and control, and the use of appropriate level of force. Students will gain physical benefits of increased balance, flexibility, strength, fitness, and coordination as well as gaining confidence, discipline, a sense of accomplishment, and self-control.
New Horizon Karate & JuJitsu offers a specially designed program for children with Autism, ADD & ADHD called The Martial Arts Movement Program. This class combines self-defense, fitness, and coordination with social development in each class. The martial arts use the entire body to do the moves. All material is age and class specific, and taught in a non-aggressive manner.
The program includes core and developmental strength exercises in a friendly, fun, and controlled setting. The classes help the students improve focus, concentration, and how to work with others while learning self-defense. Skills learned are your space (how close to stand) and your friend's space, taking turns, accepting and solving disagreements, and cooperating with the group.
We strive to recognize students’ successes. Sometimes as adults we forget about how hard a “little success” like dunking your head underwater for the first time was. I use this example, but there are many building blocks. These little successes in life build confidence for big successes, and the expectation of success. Self-confidence and self-worth are built one step at a time.
